Sir,

Tung Wah Hospital.

Hong-Kong, 13th. July, 1898.

I have the honour, in connection with my Quar-

terly Report of the Tung Wah Hospital for the 2nd. Quarter of

1898, to report to you for the information of the Government

regarding the Tung Wah Branch Plague Hospital, which was opened

on 2nd. May and closed on 27th. June.

The Hospital consisted of twenty-two matsheds

erected on the shore in front of the Government Plague Hospi-

tal at Kennedy Town, three of which had previously been used

in connection with that institution, while the others were

specially built. These were used for purposes as follows.-

5 Wards,1 Directors' room and office, 2 Doctors'

rooms,1 Dispensary,1 Visitors' waiting room and disinfecting

room, 3 coolie houses,1 amahs' room, 1 Porter's room, 2 kitchens,

1 laundry,1 Fire-engine house,1 mortuary,l coffin store, and

1 Latrine.

The five wards contained accommodation for 100

patients, and might in case of need have taken in a larger num-

ber without being injuriously overcrowded. Fortunately the epi-

demic was not such as at any time to use them to their full

capacity.

DR. J.M.ATKINSON,

Principal Civil Medical Officer.
